Habitat Characteristics of Two Hexalectris Species in Southern Arizona

WestLand Resources, Inc. (WestLand) was retained by Rosemont Copper Company (Rosemont) to document the characteristics of habitats occupied by Hexalectris colemanii and H. arizonica, two species of terrestrial orchids present in the mountains of Cochise, Pima, and Santa Cruz counties, Arizona, and Hidalgo County, New Mexico (Figure 1). This and previous work on Hexalectris was conducted to provide baseline biological data in support of Rosemont’s permitting for a copper mine in the northern Santa Rita Mountains.
