November 16, 2012

Tucson, AZ (November 16, 2012) – The Coronado National Forest planned to release the Rosemont Copper Project Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for public review in December, 2012. However, additional work must be completed before a decision is made and the Record of Decision issued, so the FEIS will not be available at that time.

June 21, 2012

Tucson, AZ (June 21, 2012) – The Coronado National Forest is currently reviewing public input received during the comment period for the Rosemont Copper Project Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). The Forest received over 25,000 comments during this period. All substantive comments have been identified, coded, and organized and responses are being developed for them. The development of response to comments is an integral part of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process as the Forest moves toward a final decision on the project. The Forest’s response to these comments will be incorporated into future public disclosures for the project as required under NEPA.

April 3, 2012

Tucson, AZ (April 3, 2012) – The Rosemont Copper Project Draft Environmental Impact Statement public review and comment period ended on January 31, 2012. Coronado National Forest officials estimate over 4,000 people attended one or more of the seven public meetings held in the affected region regarding the project. Over 25,000 comments were submitted by members of the public, elected officials, organizations, and local, state and federal agencies. All substantive comments have been identified, coded, and organized.

The Coronado National Forest has extended the formal comment period through January 31, 2012.

January 6, 2012

The final public meeting for the Rosemont Copper Project Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) will be held on January 14th at the Sahuarita District Auditorium, 350 W Sahuarita Road, Sahuarita, AZ, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The formal 90 day public review and comment period ends on January 31, 2012.

December 5, 2011

The next three public meetings for the Rosemont Copper Project Draft Environmental Impact Statement will be held on December 7th, 8th and 10th.

The purpose of these meetings is to provide information about the project and solicit public input on the project’s Environmental Impact Statement. Both written and oral comments will be taken at these meetings. For those wishing to make oral comment, speaker cards will be taken for the first hour of each meeting.

The next public meeting to share information and hear public comments is scheduled for Thursday, December 1, 2011, in Corona de Tucson. The meeting will be held at the Corona Foothills Middle School, 16705 S. Houghton Road from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

November 21, 2011

The Coronado National Forest is accepting public comments on the Rosemont Copper Project Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) in a variety of formats. The DEIS is available online at www.RosemontEIS.us. Citizens are encouraged to review the document before submitting comments. Although comments may be submitted by various methods, citizens need only provide comments once for them to receive full consideration. The 90-day comment period began on October 21, following publication of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Notice of Availability of the DEIS in the Federal Register.

Two public meetings regarding the Rosemont Copper Project Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) are being rescheduled due to potential conflicts with local events. The first and last meetings, scheduled to be held at the Desert Diamond Conference Center in Sahuarita, Arizona on October 22 and January 7, have been postponed. One has been rescheduled and arrangements are being made for the second meeting and a possible additional meeting.
